Utah COVID-19 update: 14 deaths, all of hospitalized patients; 3,972 new cases documented since Friday

UTAH, No. 8, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Health on Monday reported 14 newly documented COVID-19 deaths and 3,972 more known cases.

Positive cases now stand at 564,576. Sixty-seven cases from prior to Oct. 28 of this year were removed after further review.

Of the 3,972 new cases since Friday, 880 were in school children, UDoH says. Of those, 497 cases were in children were in children age 5 through 10; 202 were in ages 11 through 13; and 181 were in children age 14 through 17.

Utah coronavirus deaths now stand at 3,300. The 14 new deaths, all of patients who were hospitalized, were of:

  • A Davis County man between 65 and 84
  • A San Juan County man between 65 and 84
  • A Sevier County man between 45 and 64
  • A Tooele County woman between 45 and 64
  • A Uinta County man between 45 and 64
  • Two Utah County men between 45 and 64
  • A Utah County woman between 45 and 64
  • A Utah County woman between 65 and 84
  • A Utah County man between 65 and 84
  • A Washington County woman between 45 and 64
  • A Washington County man, older than, 85
  • Two Weber County men between 45 and 64

Vaccines

The Utah Department of Health reports 3,836,532 total vaccines administered as of Monday, which is 33,397 more than Friday.

Vaccinated vs Unvaccinated Risk Ratio:
In the last 28 days, people who are unvaccinated are at 15.8 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 10.8 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19, and 4.9 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people, UDoH says.

Since Feb. 1, 2021, people who are unvaccinated are at 8.4 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 7.1 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19, and 3.5 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people.

Lab Tests

UDoH reports 3,780,606 people tested. This is an increase of 23,737 people tested since Friday.

It reports 6,854,733 tests administered, an increase of 47,500 tests since Friday.

The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 1,650 per day.

The rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 17.8%. The rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 11.5%.

There are 566 people currently hospitalized in Utah with COVID-19. Total hospitalizations from the beginning of the outbreak are 24,623.
