OREM/PROVO, Utah, Dec. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Transit Authority’s new Bus Rapid Transit stations and dedicated lanes in Orem and Provo will be open on Monday.

This opening essentially brings construction on this BRT line to a conclusion, UTA said in news release Sunday.

“UTA is asking drivers to be aware of the changes and not drive in the dedicated bus lanes,” the news release cautions.

According to the release:

  • In shared lane areas, drivers will need to yield to buses.
  • Drivers and pedestrians need to be aware UVX (Utah Valley Express) has unique signaling — the buses are allowed to travel through intersections when other traffic is stopped.
  • Riders must cross streets only at designated crossings to reach the new stations in the center of major thoroughfares. Jaywalking is not only dangerous — it’s illegal.

If you have questions

“UTA volunteers will be stationed throughout the UVX system on Monday morning to answer rider questions and concerns. Passengers can also contact UTA by phone at 801-RIDE-UTA (743-3882) or on Twitter at @RideUTA,” the news release says.

According to UTA’s website, UVX is a bus rapid transit line “similar to TRAX that features articulated buses that will reduce travel times by using exclusive bus lanes and traffic signal priority.”

In addition, the stations will feature “real-time electronic displays showing vehicle locations, level boarding platforms and high-end shelters.”

The line will connect FrontRunner with major Utah Valley destinations.

Other changes starting Dec. 3

Starting Monday, southbound UVX buses will run the entire route to East Bay. Customers riding northbound from East Bay will still require a transfer to continue north; however, the transfer location will now be at the southwest corner of the bus island at Provo Central.

Other changes to the UVX schedule and other bus and rail schedules will be in effect Monday. You can see the changes here.
