SANDY, UTAH – July 31, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Sandy City Police officer rescued a 19-year-old woman from a burning car after she hit a tree Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Dean Carriger, Sandy City Police, Jessica Guisinger, was traveling west at about 1626 E. Dimple Dell Drive in Sandy when she swerved off the left side of the road, traveled through someone’s yard, through some brush then eventually crashed into a tree.

“The impact caused the woman’s car to catch fire and also knocked her unconscious,” said Carriger. “Because of her injuries and her condition, she was not able to free herself.”

Carriger said Officer Trevor McClelland, who was already in the area, arrived on scene and found Guisinger’s car fully engulfed in flames. “He was able to gain entry to the car from the passenger side and pull Miss Guisinger to safety.”

Guisinger was transported by ground ambulance to IMC in Murray in very serious condition.

Sgt. Carriger said alcohol does appear to be a factor in the accident and charges could be filed upon completion of the investigation.
