Feb. 25 (UPI) — More than 30 people were killed in a pair of suicide bombings targeting security bases in western Syria.
At least 32 people died and 24 were injured in the two attacks in the city of Homs, Gov. Talal Barazi told state media.
A total of six suicide bombers carried out the attacks, with groups of three targeting both the Ghouta and Mahatta districts.
Gen. Hassan Daaboul, the head of Homs’ military intelligence, was reported as one of the victims who died in one of the attacks.
Radical group Tahrir al-Sham claimed responsibility for the bombings, saying five of its fighters took part in the attacks and killed 40 Syrian regime officers including Daaboul.
Tahrir al-Sham was formed when members of the group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham broke ties with al-Qaeda.
