CAIRO, June 16 (UPI) — Egyptian investigators on Thursday said the cockpit voice recorder from EgyptAir Flight MS804 has been found in the Mediterranean.

A ship equipped with an underwater robot has been searching an area north of Egypt’s coast since May for the 12-year-old Airbus 320. The voice recorder wasreportedly recovered and brought to the surface.

EgyptAir Flight MS804 is presumed to have crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on May 18 with 66 people on board. The Airbus A320, en route from Paris to Cairo, disappeared from radar screens as it traveled from Greek to Egyptian air space.

Authorities are considering the possibility the aircraft was brought down in an act of terrorism, but the official cause of the incident has not been determined.

All passengers are presumed dead.

The cockpit voice recorder should allow investigators to hear any alarms in the background during flight and hear what the plane’s pilot and co-pilot were saying.
