AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 7 (UPI) — A central Texas judge who presides over felony cases is in stable condition after she was shot while standing in the driveway of her Austin home.

State District Judge Julie Kocurek was critically injured in the shooting shortly after 10 p.m. Friday as she was returning home in the affluent community of Tarrytown. Her injury is not considered life threatening.

Police have not detailed a motive or a description of a suspect in the shooting.

Kocurek, a former prosecutor, has been the presiding judge in the Travis County criminal court since 1999. She was re-elected in 2012, with her term expiring in 2016.

The court docket shows she has most recently presided over sexual assault, murder and robbery cases. On Tuesday, she was expected to oversee several burglary and fraud cases.
