Creating a new meaning to curing the munchies, the founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream recently said that when cannabis is made legal, they would consider making a new cannabis infused flavor.

They are not however the first ones to come up with the idea. Cannabis Creamery, a Richmond company, already makes marijuana-infused ice cream for California medicinal marijuana prescription holders.

Ben & Jerry’s has already had success with flavors such as Satisfy My Bowl, Cherry Garcia, Half Baked, and the Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies Encore Edition.

Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, wasn’t completely on board with the idea as he indicated that marijuana would need to be fully legalized in every state/territory in which the company sells first to make it worth their while.

Ben & Jerry’s has been known for being socially progressive as the brand has long supported marriage equality and offers good benefits to workers.

The company has also phased out GMOs in its ingredients.

As more states legalize marijuana, other big consumer companies are looking to capitalize on the trend.

‘Skinnygirl’ alcohol founder Bethenny Frankel (The Real Housewife of New York),  is reportedly working on weed that won’t give you the munchies and has plans on launching her own line of ‘Skinnygirl marijuana’ in Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, where recreational cannabis is legal.
