Wes Welker Open to New England Patriots Reunion
FOXBOROUGH, Mass., June 3 (UPI) — Like many players in the NFL, Wes Welkerwouldn’t mind joining the super bowl champion New England Patriots next season.
But for Welker, it would be a welcome homecoming.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to it,” Welker told WBZ-FM on a Patriots return. “It’s a great organization, obviously, and a great team. It wouldn’t be the worst situation in the world.”
Welker, 34, has had a rough return from two concussions in three weeks during the 2013 season.
Welker has never started all 16 games in one season and hasn’t played in 16 games in one season since the 2012 season in New England.
Welker has 672 receptions, 7,459 yards, and 37 touchdowns in six seasons for the Patriots. In his two seasons in Denver, Welker had 122 receptions for 1,242 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“I don’t make any of the personnel decisions — everything’s done in the head office at all times — but if it was up to me, if he came back, he’d be welcomed back with open arms and a big hug,” Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski told Sports Illustrated.
