Taylorsville man charged with assault after allegedly driving a tool through roommate’s genitals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 4, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Taylorsville man accused of torturing his former roommate with an ice pick-like tool has been arrested.

Jason Dee Maughn, 45, is facing charges of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, first-degree felony aggravated sexual assault, second-degree felony mayhem and second-degree felony aggravated assault.

He was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail Monday.

Charging documents issued by the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City state that Maughn’s former roommate reported to police that he was assaulted on Aug. 30 in Salt Lake County. The victim reported that he and Maughn got in an argument at approximately 11 p.m.

“During the argument, Maughn held a shotgun to the victim’s head and made him sit on a chair with hand rests,” charging documents state. “When seated, the victim’s wrists were handcuffed to the chair. Maughn told the victim that he could either be taken to the desert and be killed or Maughn could drive a nail into the victim’s penis.”

Maughn told the victim that if he fought, he would shoot him. The victim said he chose to have a nail driven through his genitals.

Charging documents state Maughn placed a 2 foot by 4 foot wooden board under the victim’s groin after his pants were pulled down. Maughn then positioned a tool resembling an ice pick on top of the victim’s genitals. He then used a rusty hammer to drive the tool resembling the ice pick into the victim’s genitals and into the wood board below.

After a few seconds, Maughn pulled the tool resembling the ice pick out of the victim’s genitals and took off his handcuffs. The victim ran to the bathroom and Maughn told him to leave.

The victim went to the hospital the next morning.

Maughn’s bail has been set at $250,000.
