May Divorce Be With You, Happy Valentine’s Day

Divorce - Gephardt Daily

Roses are red, violets are blue, and I won a contest so that I can divorce you. Okay, maybe it’s not the sweetest poem you’ve ever heard. But it may sound sweet to radio listeners, especially around Valentine’s Day.

If you live in Texas and you’re a lucky winner, a radio station is paying for a listener’s divorce with the help of a Texas attorney. The listener must email a photo of themselves WITHOUT their soon-to-be ex husband or wife so that 97.9X can post the photos and pick a random winner. The winner will receive a standard $2,500 from Texas attorney Fred T. Howe. The winner will be announced Friday, February 13th.

That’s not the only radio station involved; another Texas Radio station called 99.5 Kiss is doing a similar contest. Listeners are required to submit a statement as to why they deserve to win the grand prize of a divorce provided by the Law Offices of Carroll and Hinojosa. Ten qualifiers will be selected and the grand prizewinner will be announced on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Utahn radio stations decided to give away things like diamond rings on the lovely holiday. 97.1 ZHT calls it the ‘Diamond Dash,’ where women can enter to win a chance to dive into a giant cake on February 13th searching for a diamond ring that they get to call their own provided by Sierra-West Jewelers.

However, if diving into a cake doesn’t sound sweet to you, you could always enter to win an annual membership to Massage Envy Spa from radio stations like X96, Mix 107.9, 101.5 the Eagle, or u92 for you and your love muffin.

All of these prizes are expensive gifts, especially divorces. I don’t know what is in the Texas air because most individuals don’t think of Valentine’s Day to divorce their once loved one. But who knows, maybe it will make its way to Utah.
