SUNSET, Utah, Feb. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews responded to a two-alarm residential fire Friday night at 75 W. 2300 North. When they were able to enter the home, they found one person deceased inside.

North Davis Fire District Chief Mark Becraft told Gephardt Daily the 911 call was received at 8:17 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the home’s front windows.

“They knocked it down pretty fast,” Becraft said. “When they went in and searched, they found the victim, an adult. That was the only occupant.”

Becraft said it is his understanding that the victim was a renter and was the only person residing in the home.

Although the structure is still standing, Becraft described the building as “almost a total loss,” with damage estimated at $200,000.

Fire crews from North Davis, Clinton, Layton, Roy, Riverdale and Hill Air Force Base responded to the blaze.

Becraft said everyone did a “really good job” of getting the fire under control quickly.

The scene has been secured, and a joint investigation is being conducted by North Davis Fire District, Sunset Police Department and the State Fire Marshal.

No firefighters were injured, and no one other than the deceased individual was on the premises.
