SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 30, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are investigating the cause of a residential fire, near 1400 South and 1400 East, that displaced four people and two pets overnight.

Battalion Chief Paul Paulsen, Salt Lake City Fire Department, said crews were called out on the house fire just after 1 a.m. Monday.

There was a lot of smoke, with flames visible on the back of the structure, Paulsen said. The heat had caused an awning to pull away, “so we ended up removing that down to the ground.”

The firefighters did get a quick jump on the back-porch blaze, he said, knocking the fire down in about 20 minutes and getting it totally under control in about 40 minutes.

Paulsen said the fire was primarily in the back porch area but did get into the home “a little bit,” so crews pulled the ceilings, and there was some smoke inside. It was still too early, he said, to estimate the full extent of damage to the home.

There were no injuries in this fire, and no other structures were threatened.

The home’s four occupants, plus two pets, got out safely and will be staying with family overnight, Paulsen said.
