LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9 (UPI) — Lena Dunham will not be participating in the upcoming promotional tours revving up the fifth season of “Girls” due to doctor-mandated rest.
The actress and filmmaker confirmed on Facebook Monday she is battling endometriosis — a condition that affects the uterus — and will be taking time off to tend to the health issue.
“I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest,” Dunham wrote.
“I’m lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang,” she continued. “So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted.”
The National Institutes of Health note Dunham’s condition affects six to 10 percent of women of reproductive age, and often can cause infertility.
