MIDVALE, Utah, May 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Seventeen units and more than 50 firefighters responded to the scene of a Midvale fire Wednesday night, and battled a blaze in a single-story residence.
Matthew McFarland, Unified Fire Authority spokesman, said the fire was called in at 8:39 p.m. and crews responded to the home, at 8244 Wood St.
“The reports were that all family members were out safely,” McFarland said. “Upon arrival, the first thing crews found was a pretty hot garage fire going, and it was starting to spread into the structure itself.”
The fire was in UFA territory, but extra units from West Jordan and Murray fire departments pitched in as well, “which we appreciate,” McFarland said.
“We had it controlled within 15 minutes of arrival, but we will be on the scene for at least another hour.”
One of the occupants of the house was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, but declined to be transported to a hospital, McFarland said. Investigators were just arriving on scene, so there was no immediate estimate of the fire’s cause or estimated damage, McFarland said.
Most of the damage was contained to the garage, he said, but flames had spread through parts of the attic, causing flame damage there and smoke damage to the living area below.
