PROVO, Utah, Nov. 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman who became the subject of a search when she and the 7-year-old boy she was babysitting “went missing” now finds herself facing charges in connection to the incident.
Jordana Nicole Murray, 37, a friend of the child’s mother, was babysitting the boy from Friday, Nov. 8, to Sunday, Nov. 10, according to a probable cause statement filed in Utah County.
When the boy’s mother wanted Murray to return him to her, Murray agreed to meet for the exchange, but then failed to meet and didn’t respond to the mother’s attempts to reach her.
The frantic mother notified Provo police that her 7-year-old son was missing, and officers “worked throughout the night and day of 11/11/19 attempting to locate Jordana and the missing child,” the charging document says.
A notice went out through social media, requesting the public’s help in locating the woman and child.
At about 9 p.m. Monday, police got information that Murray may be at a home in Provo. When officers arrived at the home, they found Murray and the boy, along with Murray’s two children.
The home was vacant and for sale, and the officers determined that Murray had entered through an unlocked door without permission. She had entered and stayed there unlawfully, the document says, and she made no attempt to return the child or contact his mother.
Murray was arrested and charged on suspicion of criminal trespass within a dwelling and unlawful detention of a minor, both class A misdemeanors.
