Hanson’s Cigar Box Guitars To Be Featured At Local Artists Showcase
Bret Hanson of Salt Lake City takes combining art and music to a whole new level.
Born and raised in Idaho, Hanson, founder and creator of Hanson Music Works, first fell in love with guitars at the age of 16 when his father brought him home an electric guitar he purchased at a yard sale.
As he began writing and recording more music, he wanted to incorporate more instruments into his songs. He did his research online and discovered an international community of people that were building their own musical instruments.

His music mixed with the invaluable woodworking and design skills he learned in 2010, including functionality of shape and materials, brought him to this most unique combination of music and art.
“The ability to combine my two true loves: music and art, has made building this company my true dream job. Each piece that I make teaches me something. Sometimes, it is a lesson on design. Sometimes, a class on the properties of wood,” said Hanson.
He will take part in a showcase presented by RAW: Natural Born Artists, at the The Grand @ The Complex on Thursday, Feb. 19.
The showcase is presented by the international independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creativeness in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair and make-up artistry, photography, models and performing art.
RAW events are multi-faceted artistic showcases. Each event features a film screening, musical performance, fashion show, art gallery, performance art and a featured hairstylist and makeup artist. These artists are all local, hand-picked talent.
Hanson has been able to play locally and he sells his products online and at other events but this is the first time he has been able to combine the two. Hansen will be playing for about 20 minutes and then selling his products during the rest of the event.
