Lenovo Releases PC on a Stick
BEIJING, June 24 (UPI) — Lenovo plans next month to start selling its ideacentre Stick 300, a miniature Windows PC the size of a thumb drive.
As the latest manufacturer to join the PC-on-a-stick movement, Lenovo undercuts its competitors with a lower price. Intel’s Computer Stick, for example, has the same technical specifications as Lenovo’s stick but costs $20 more.
The ideacentre, which will be available in stores for $130 starting in July, is powered by an Intel Atom Z3735 processor alongside 2GB of RAM and 32GB of data storage. The device can be connected to a high-definition television or computer monitor via an HDMI port, with power supplied through a micro USB 2.0 port and wireless capabilities made possible through integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The device is 15mm thick and will ship with Windows 8.1. Users will be eligible for a free Windows 10 upgrade beginning July 29.
To control the device, the user must supply a wireless keyboard and mouse or use an app for controlling a PC from a phone, such as Intel’s Remote Keyboard.
Though the technical specifications of the stick limit its versatility, Lenovo suggests using it to enhance a traditional hotel room TV or putting an otherwise abandoned monitor to use for editing work documents or streaming multimedia.
