SEATTLE, Oct. 12 (UPI) — Amazon has released a new on-demand music streaming service to rival Spotify, Google and Apple. The service works on Echo devices.
Amazon executive Steve Boom told The Verge the service, called Amazon Music Unlimited, has signed on three major music labels, along with hundreds of independent labels.
Amazon Music Unlimited offers three plans: an individual plan for $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year for Amazon Prime members or $9.99 a month for non-Prime members; a family plan that extends the service to up to six family members for $14.99 a month; and an Echo plan that will allow people to stream music through a single Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap device for an additional $3.99.
Amazon is offering free 30-day trials for the service, which also allows users to search for songs by quoting the song’s lyrics. Boom said the service is not launching with any major artist or album exclusives, adding that the company is still evaluating whether to pursue exclusive content.
