Sept. 12 (UPI) — Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton has signed on as a guest star in the “Yellowstone” prequel, “1883,” on Paramount+.

The “Goliath” and “Sling Blade” alum will play Marshal Jim Courtright on the show, the cast of which will be led by Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

“So cool to have Billy Bob Thornton join ‘1883.’ We worked together on ‘Friday Night Lights’… can’t wait to team up on this one!” McGraw tweeted Friday.

The streaming network has described the Dutton family origins story as “a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”

Produced by “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan, “1883” is slated to premiere on Paramount+ on Dec. 19.

Season 4 of the contemporary ranch drama “Yellowstone” — starring Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley and Cole Hauser — is scheduled to debut on Nov. 7.
