LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) — Caitlyn Jenner reached a settlement with Kim Howe’s stepchildren this week, nearly a year after her involvement in a car crash that left Howe dead at 69.
William Howe and Dana Redmond filed to dismiss their wrongful death lawsuit against the 66-year-old reality star Tuesday after settling with Jenner for an undisclosed sum. Sources told TMZ the pair received a “very modest amount” paid by the star’s insurance.
Jenner was driving an SUV when she collided with Howe’s Lexus Feb. 7 on the Pacific Coast Highway. The impact sent Howe into oncoming traffic, where she died after being hit head-on by a Hummer. Jenner braked after colliding with Howe, but rear-ended a Prius.
The crash was under investigation for seven months before the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office declined to file vehicular manslaughter charges against Jenner. Prosecutors said the star was driving under the speed limit and were unable to find her conduct “unreasonable.”
Jenner settled a lawsuit with Prius driver Jessica Steindorff, who was suing for personal injury and property damage, in December. The reality star has yet to resolve a lawsuit with Hummer driver Peter Wolf-Millesi, who claims he and four family members were injured when Howe’s car collided with their vehicle.
“I remember it happening. That’s about it,” Jenner said during an appearance on Today in September. “A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can.”
Jenner, who revealed she is transgender in April, will write a memoir about her transition scheduled for release in 2017. She also stars on E! series I Am Cait, which will return for a second season Mar. 6, and continues to appear on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
