With all the hype surrounding Sundance this week, we found a way to celebrate both film and our beloved furry friends.

PetDance, an international short film festival dedicated to celebrating the joys of living with companion animals, made it’s debut in South Salt Lake over the weekend. Attended by an estimated 300-500 people, PetDance had films submitted from around the world. A full pet savvy festival complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony, top films screenings, celebrity canine actor presentations, a film maker and judge panel, and of course the awards ceremony. Awards are presented in four different categories: educational, dramatic, funny and youth produced.

A fundraiser for Best Friends Animal Society of Utah, The PetDance Film Festival is designed for filmmakers who make movies with their pets. They focus on raising awareness of issues concerning animal welfare and rights, and promoting compassion for animals of all species. It was a full day of fun, including face painting, a silent auction, raffle, and sponsor rescue organization tables and video’s on their big screen.

Interested in submitting a film for 2016? PetDance will soon be seeking submissions of animal-centric short films (10 minutes or less) that fit into those four categories. Prizes are awarded to the top 3 in each category. For more information about PetDance and it’s volunteer opportunities please check out their website www.petdancefilmfestival.com.
