11-year-old Clinton boy dies after being run over by car he was working on with dad

CLINTON, Utah, Sept. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An 11-year-old Clinton boy died Friday after the car he was working on with his dad lunged forward, crushing him, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the incident near 2000 North and 2220 West at approximately 10:18 a.m., said Clinton Police Sgt. Matt Fawbush.

Fawbush said the boy, whose name was not immediately released, was helping his father repair a part in the car’s engine compartment.

The hood was up and the father did not see the boy standing in front of the car when he went to start the vehicle to test the engine. Fawbush said the car lunged forward and struck the boy.

“By the time he had realized that he had hit his son, he had driven over the top of him,” Fawbush said.

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Fawbush said the car was not on a block or a jack and was parked in the street outside of their home.

Fawbush added that the incident was a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected.
