WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A bicyclist was critically injured Friday night when he was hit by a vehicle at 3800 Redwood Road.

West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke said the accident occurred at about 7:22 p.m. The man, Nathan Miller, 25, was riding his bike from east to west when he was hit by a Chrysler Pacifica traveling northbound in the far right-hand lane.

Miller’s injuries were severe, Burke said, and at the time he was transported to the hospital, it wasn’t known if he would survive. Burke had no further information on his condition at 1 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of the Pacifica stayed at the scene and was cooperative with police. Burke said Miller may have been in the crosswalk, but it isn’t known if he was crossing with the light.

West Valley City officers responded to the accident, and the traffic unit took photos at the scene. Redwood Road was closed for about an hour.

Burke said it isn’t known if any charges will be filed. The incident will be under investigation for a few days while officials check with the Traffic Operations Center to try to determine if the light was red or green. They also will canvass the area for any surveillance video that may be available from nearby businesses.

The injured man apparently was not wearing a helmet, as none was found at the scene.
