Utah Man Killed in Head-On Crash on SR 6

A 19-year old Utah man has died after a massive pile-up Tuesday afternoon on State Route 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Mapleton resident, Arik Mack, was killed when the eastbound passenger car he was driving went left of center and struck a semi-truck head-on.
Investigators say the truck was pulling two trailers loaded with coal. It overturned, knocking down power lines, and blocking traffic in both directions.
Mack was thrown from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in Mack’s car was injured and flown by helicopter to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the semi and a lone passenger were also hurt, but the extent of their injuries are unknown. They are not believed to be life threatening.
State Route 6 remained closed throughout the afternoon and evening from State Route 89 Junction outside Thistle to the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon.
