MAPLETON, Utah, Aug. 18, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Mapleton residents in the area of the Ether Hollow burn scar have been ordered to evacuate Wednesday afternoon due to heavy rains.

“The National Weather Service has called to say that the approaching storm poses a threat of flash flood over the Ether Hollow burn scar,” said a Facebook post from Mapleton Police Department at 4 p.m. “We have evacuated the pre-determined evacuation area.”

Residents are being asked to avoid travel on 1600 North east of 1700 East.

“Further updates will be posted as they become available,” the post said.

Residents were evacuated from 20 Mapleton homes July 22 after brief but heavy rains led to isolated flooding in the area.

The Ether Hollow Fire was first reported Sept. 7, 2020; its cause was target shooting, officials said.
