BLUFFDALE, Utah, July 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) Crews are battling the second wildfire to spark this week in the Camp Williams are near Bluffdale, fire officials said Sunday.

More than 30 firefighters, 13 brush trucks and two helicopters are on the scene of the fire, dubbed the Oak Springs Utah Fire, said a tweet from the Utah National Guard at 2 p.m.

“Three sides of fire are contained at fire breaks, but still spreading west,” the tweet said.

Approximately 25 acres had burned at that time, officials said, and the fire was 25 percent contained.

“Currently traveling northwest towards fire breaks,” a follow-up tweet said.

At 2:45 p.m., a follow-up tweet said the north fire break is holding and the breaks are currently being widened. “Crews making significant headway containing and improving fire breaks,” the tweet said.

A tanker dropped approximately 3,000 gallons of fire retardant on the fire.

At 5 p.m., a follow-up tweet said the fire has burned approximately 200 acres. “Fire breaks were highly successful,” the tweet said. “Two more contingency fire breaks emplaced between fire and Herriman City, just in case. There are no active flames.”

The fire was first dubbed the Oak Springs Fire, but a follow up tweet said that it is now being referred to as the Oak Springs Utah Fire.

Crews also battled a brush fire near Camp Williams on Monday afternoon.

The brush fire was burning in the area of 18182 S. Camp Williams Road (1550 West), and was first reported at approximately 4:30 p.m.

It is thought that fire was caused by the construction taking place west of Redwood Road.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
