UTAH COUNTY, Utah, July 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two drivers were cited for driving under the influence late Wednesday night after their vehicles ended up on their sides at the bottom of a ravine.

Sgt. Robinson, of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said the vehicles were driving together down Payson Canyon at about 11:30 p.m. on Nebo Loop Road and were “just about at the Maple Lake turnoff.”

“One vehicle went off the road, and the other one followed down the ravine,” Robinson told Gephardt Daily.

Three people were in one vehicle, the driver was the only person in the other, and they all took off on foot. Robinson said everyone involved was under the age of 21.

Passersby called the sheriff’s office around midnight to report the accident and let officials know that those involved had gotten a ride to the hospital by a passerby in a private vehicle.

“Deputies responded to the scene and sent a deputy ahead to the hospital. He got there just after they (the people from the accident) did. They only had minor injuries,” Robinson said.

The drivers were cited for DUI and released, he said. No one was booked into jail. Crews were still removing the wrecked vehicles three hours later.
