Former Emery County Sheriff who served for 40 years dies

EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Emery County is mourning the loss of a former sheriff who served in the office for 40 years.

“Emery County Sheriff’s Office expresses sincere condolences to the family of former Emery County Sheriff Lamar E. Guymon,” a news release from officials said.

Guymon passed away on Friday after struggling with complications from a heart attack several months ago.

“He diligently served the citizens of Emery County for 40 years, serving as sheriff for 36 of those years,” the news release said.

“Lamar was one of the longest standing sheriffs in the history of Utah. In addition to his duties as Emery County Sheriff, Lamar served on several boards and committees throughout Utah, using his knowledge, leadership and determination to make things better for those around him.”

The news release also extends thanks to his wife and six children. Guymon also had 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

“A special thank you to his dear wife GayLa and to his children for all the years of unwavering support they gave Lamar that enabled him to serve and lead in Emery County,” the news release said.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington Stake Center at 240 N. Main St. To read Guymon’s obituary click here.
