SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A GoFundMe account has been set up for a child who was just two months shy of his 5th birthday when he was killed and his mother injured after being struck by a suspected DUI driver Saturday morning near 900 West and California Avenue.

According to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brett Olsen, the child and mother were in the crosswalk when they were run over by a GMC Jimmy.

First responders worked to save the little boy but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The mother was taken to a nearby hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Olsen said the driver of the SUV remained at the accident site and was ultimately charged with DUI.

The GoFundMe page set up by family members identifies the child as Holden Curtis.

The page says: “Sweet, sweet Holden was taken far too soon. He was hit by a suspected DUI driver when he was riding his bike across a crosswalk. He touched so many lives and was taken at the young age of 4, just two months short of turning 5. He was the happiest, best friend that anyone could ask for. He had a joy for life that was contagious to all he came in contact with. He touched so many lives in his short time on Earth, and it is hard to imagine continuing on without him. Anything is appreciated as the parents of Holden will have to take time off work and cover many expenses associated with this tragedy. Or feel free to Venmo us at Brett and Janna Curtis @Brett-C2424.”

Carl Wayne Johnson, 56, is accused of driving the vehicle that struck the two pedestrians, according to a probable cause statement filed in 3rd District Court by an officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Gephardt Daily will have more information on this developing story as details become available.
