SALTAIR, Utah, Feb. 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities from the Unified Police Department have identified the body found Thursday evening near Saltair and have classified the man’s death as a homicide.

The body of Chandler Cooper, 22, was found near 11500 W. Frontage Road at about 5 p.m. Thursday night.

“We got a 911 call from a couple that had come out to go hiking in the area,” said Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department. “As they walked down a trail, away from the road, they stumbled across a body in the sagebrush.”

When officers arrived, the couple led them to the site.

“They (the officers) determined there was indeed an individual there that was deceased. There was not any other vehicle there, and not really any obvious signs of what had happened.”

Bell said due to the circumstances and location of the body, the death is being investigated as a homicide. The couple indicated the body looked like it had been there for a while, Bell added.

No other details were immediately available. This is a developing story, and will be updated as more information becomes available.
