MAGNA, Utah, Oct. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A  man hit by a car while crossing 8400 West near 3500 South in Magna remains in extremely critical condition Sunday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Manfred Lassig said a 46-year-old man was crossing from the east side of 8400 West at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Lassig said the man was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

According to police, the man was crossing mid-block, not in a crosswalk. The area is fairly well-lighted, with restaurants and other businesses on both sides of the street.

Police were not releasing the names of the driver or the victim Saturday night. Lassig said the Major Accident Response Team was on scene and the area would be closed to traffic, possibly past midnight.
