Man in critical condition after alleged aggravated assault outside Salt Lake City men’s shelter

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in critical condition after an alleged aggravated assault outside the Road Home men’s shelter Friday night.

The incident occurred at the shelter at 235 S. 500 West just after 11:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

“The victim was standing outside of the men’s shelter with a group of people,” the news release said. “The suspect approached the victim and struck him in the head with his elbow which caused the victim to fall backwards and hit his head on the concrete.”

The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The suspect fled the area on foot. Officers later located the suspect, Robert Walter Baker, 38, and arrested him for aggravated assault.
