SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was pulled from a burning car by citizens after a single-vehicle crash in Salt Lake City Monday afternoon.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Steve Wooldridge said the man was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Temple at 600 West just after 4 p.m. when the accident occurred.

“His vehicle left the roadway and went across some landscaping and hit a pole before it stopped under the overpass,” Wooldridge said. “Several people stopped to help the man and pulled him out of the vehicle while it was still burning.”

The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing and it is not known if drugs or alcohol, besides speed, were also factors.

  1. My Brother was the one who pulled this man from his vehicle. He broke out the passenger side window unlock the door and unlocked his seat belt then started pulling the man out. That’s when another man help him get him away from the car . It was an amazing thing to watch people put them selfs in harms way to help someone in dire need of help.

  2. They guy that saved the guy from the burning car was my fiancé. It takes a lot for someone to put there life in danger to save someone else’s life. I am proud that my fiancé was there to save the guy. Who knows what could have happen. I hope that the guy is doing okay and has a well recovery.

  3. My boyfriend a 17 year old future marine also helped save the guy. We were the first ones to get to the scene. He was the first one to open the door and try to get the man out from the driver side thats when flames went up on him they didn’t cause serious burns thank god. Him and another black young man took the man a few yards away while I was on the phone with 911. I stroked the mans hair to try and keep him awake while my boyfriend held his hand. We had to turn him on the side because he was choking on his own blood. If it wasn’t for all the people that helped and the guy from red iguana that got the fire extinguisher the guy and many others including myself would of been really injured or could have died if the car exploded. Hope he’s doing okay and hope everyone who helped is okay as well.

  4. My lady & I were driving on the other side going the opposite way. Suddenly we saw the speeding car. It almost hit 2 females in at the crosswalk. That’s when my lady had told me to go back around because she had seen smoke & sure enough, as we got closer, we saw the impact. That’s when I parked the car & ran towards it. I opened his door & tried to take him out but, unfortunately, flames went up on me so I had to bacK away since it had burned me a little bit & was finding out another way to take him out. That’s when I saw A guy break the passenger window & take him out. As he did that, I kept people away & ran towards the victim & helped carry him away to the sidewalk along with an African-American Male whom I did not have much of a chance to thank. Around this time, I returned back to the car to find any signs of more passengers. Then I went back to the victim & helped keep him alive & awake with others. He was choking on his blood so sure enough we leaned him on his side. Although I feel Responsible for not reacting fast enough, I want to thank all my fellow brothers & sisters who teamed up with us to help save this man’s life.

  5. Many people showed true humanitarian concern and courage at the scene of the accident. Many thanks to those who came to the driver’s aid. The victim suffered serious injuries in the accident and has recently passed away.

    • I just heard about Link today. My heart is broken for the pain he has endured recently. I pray he is at peace. He has great friends, I wish he knew how much he was loved.
