PROVO, Utah, July 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries late Monday night after police say she was crossing University Avenue (Highway 189) against the light and was struck by a vehicle.

Sgt. Nisha King, Provo City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily the young woman, who is in her late teens, was crossing at 3700 North shortly after 10 p.m.

Northbound traffic on University had the green light, King said, and as the woman was crossing the roadway, a car swerved to avoid hitting her and struck another vehicle.

King said it appears that, despite the driver’s efforts to miss the pedestrian, the car did hit her.

The accident is still under investigation and no other details were known Monday night.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
