SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man and woman were arrested Friday for allegedly using counterfeit bills to purchase meals at restaurants in Salt Lake County over a two-week period.

Ashley Nicole Jacobson, 21, and Skyler Dean Holmes, 29, are each facing multiple charges of forgery and drug possession.

On Friday, according to probable cause statements filed in Salt Lake County by an officer with the Riverton Police Department, officers were called to the Taco Time restaurant in Riverton on a report of a man and woman trying to buy food with counterfeit money.

The officers made contact with Jacobson and Holmes and, after being given a Miranda warning, the pair agreed to talk to the officers.

“They both acknowledged they were in possession of several counterfeit $20 bills and that they had used other bills” in fast-food restaurants in Riverton, Herriman and South Jordan over the past two weeks, the charging document states.

The owner of the Riverton Taco Time told police that Jacobson and Holmes had been captured on surveillance video passing two counterfeit bills in his Herriman restaurant the previous day.

Police say the two did the same thing at a Chik-Fil-A in Riverton, entering the restaurant separately, each buying food with a fake $20 bill, and pocketing the change.

According to the statement, they admitted to using a photo copy machine that was in their vehicle when the officers made contact with them.

Additionally, police say the pair admitted to having used heroin syringes in the car, and officers found “dozens of used syringes with residue in them, one syringe loaded with heroin, a small amount of heroin, a meth pipe and a digital scale with heroin residue on the surface.”

Ashley Jacobson was charged on suspicion of:

  • Three counts of forgery, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of forgery writing/device, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalis, a class B misdemeanor

Skyler Holmes was charged on suspicion of:

  • Three counts of forgery, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of forgery writing/device, a third-degree felony
