CACHE COUNTY, Utah, April 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A snowmobiler from Providence, who was severely injured in a crash Thursday passed away on Saturday, his family announced on Facebook.
Chris Checketts, 55, was snowmobiling in the area of Tony Grove Lake on Thursday afternoon when the crash occurred. His son, who was on his own snowmobile, was able to reach him and dialed 911.
The rescue operation was a difficult one because Checketts was on a slope under a ridge and inaccessible by helicopter. Search and Rescue volunteers had to traverse the unstable terrain to get to him and then bring in the equipment needed to transport him to the waiting helicopter.
Checketts was first taken to Logan Regional Hospital and then to Intermountain Medical Center, where he was taken off life support on Saturday, which was also his birthday.
On Monday, his wife, Sandra, posted on Facebook:
“My life has been blessed with so many amazing adventures and great times with Chris. He is my rock star and eternal companion. I am so glad that I said “YES!” On top of the Wellsville mountains over 32 years ago.”
She added that her husband “was able to donate two kidneys to two wonderful individuals that will hopefully get to enjoy more abundant time on this earth because of him.”
