PROVO, Utah, March 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who was found in a Provo motel with an unconscious woman, who then resisted arrest even after being Tased, has been booked into the Utah County Jail.

Derek Chris Thomas, 32, is being held in lieu of paying a $50,000 cash-only bail.

Provo police responded on Saturday to a call of disorderly conduct and domestic violence.

Arriving officers were told the suspect’s room number, and that he was a man named Derek, says a probable cause statement filed by a Provo Police officer.

Officers tried to make contact, without success.

“Derek was being uncooperative and was not answering his door. Derek opened his window and began to scream at officers through the window,” the statement says.

“Derek slammed the window shut and closed his blinds. Derek opened the blinds and then told us that he was going to grab a gun. Derek walked up to the window and slammed his fists in the window and broke the glass.”

An officer deployed his Taser through the broken window, and it hit Thompson in the chest.

“Derek went to take the prongs out of his chest and more tasers were deployed and pepper balls were shot at Derek,” the statement says. “Officers kicked the door of the motel room and made entrance. Derek advanced toward the officer in the room and was struck with another Taser.

“Officers went hands on with Derek to try and and place him in handcuffs. Once Derek was in handcuffs he was still actively trying to fight. Derek kicked two officers while he was trying to fight free.”

The victim later told officers that Thompson had performed a non-consensual sexual act on her. When he was interviewed, Thompson said the act was consensual.

Thompson was booked into jail in the early hours of Sunday morning on suspicion of:

  • Object rape, a first-degree felony
  • Forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony
  • Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Two counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony
  • Threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor
  • Two counts of criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor
  • Interference with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor
  • Disorderly conduct, an infraction

According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office website, this is Thompson’s 13th booking into the facility since 2012.
