BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS, UTAH – September 1, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Another racing event at Utah’s famous Bonneville Salt Flats has been called off.

The Utah Salt Flats Racing Association, which organizes the World of Speed 2015 event that would have started Sept. 12, said in a statement on their website: “After many hours of looking for a place to run, test dragging and inspecting the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 28th the USFRA team was unable to find a long or short course that would sustain or provide a safe venue for a 300 vehicle, multi- day event.

It is with heavy heart and great disappointment that the World of Speed for 2015 is Canceled.”

World of Speed 2015 is usually held over four days in mid-September and features some of the fastest racing with a variety of vehicles.

Back in July, the highly anticipated Utah Speed Week was canceled for the second year in a row.

The cancellation was announced by the Southern California Timing Association, the racing body responsible from tracking times at the event.

According to a press release posted on the SCTA website, racing officials spent hours the morning of July 20 surveying the salt flat’s condition and could find just a two and quarter mile stretch that was suitable for racing.

The remainder of the flats were described as wet or wet and muddy.
