SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man is facing a first-degree felony attempted murder charge after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend multiple times and dragged her by her hair while he drove a vehicle.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Ruben Roybal, 42, was arrested Friday and transported to Salt Lake County Jail. He is being held without bail.
Witnesses watched the suspect assault the victim, the statement said.
“Witness also stated he noticed suspect holding a knife,” the statement goes on. “Other witnesses on scene stated they saw the victim being drug by her hair by suspect who was holding victim’s hair from the vehicle and dragging her with his vehicle.”
The victim has multiple stab wounds to her neck and body, drag wounds to her body, and lacerations to her face, the statement said. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition; she remains in the ICU but has been upgraded to stable condition.
The suspect tried to avoid being arrested by officers by hiding in the attic of his residence, officials said.
The felony was committed while Roybal was on parole, the statement said. He is also a documented gang member, and according to court records, has a lengthy criminal history.
