SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an individual wanted for questioning in a homicide that occurred downtown early Saturday.
Police would like to locate and speak with Thalwallkelah Lamar Washington, the SLCPD said in a news release Sunday. Thalwallkelah goes by his middle name, Lamar, and is 38 years old. He is known to drive a black 2007 Mercedes Benz with California license plate 7XCP832.
Detectives have also received information that cellphone video of this incident may have been taken by parties not involved, the news release said. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have taken cellphone video to please contact SLCPD.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m., officials said.
SLCPD Lt. Scott Smalley said it appears that an altercation that started in a popular bar called Wasted Space, at 324 S. State St., carried over into a parking garage.
“At some point in that altercation, shots were fired, fatally wounding one individual,” Smalley said, later adding that the victim was male. “Right now, we’re interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.”
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified pending notification of family members.
Smalley had no information as to whether the victim and his assailant were asked to leave the bar, or if they decided to leave on their own.
