SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect was arrested Friday morning after a SWAT situation at a Salt Lake City motel, officials said.

A man called police to report suspicious males near his room at the Salt City Inn, at 1025 N. 900 West, just after 8:10 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

Another call was received from motel management reporting a domestic altercation in the same room, the news release said.

“Officers arrived and found the door of the room had been barricaded,” the news release goes on. “Several loud ‘pops’ that sounded like gunfire were heard in the room.”

Containment was established and SWAT was called to the scene.

Negotiations were established and the suspect and a woman exited the room.

Officers booked Johnny Maestas, 44, into jail for criminal mischief and several outstanding warrants.

The woman was not injured, police said.
