UPDATE: Third Suspect in Brutal Attack on Smoke Shop Clerk in Custody

SOUTH JORDAN, UTAH – July 11, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The South Jordan Police Department has confirmed that Cage King, the third suspect in a robbery of a smoke shop in South Jordan, and the one who used a rock to assault the clerk, has been taken into custody.

According to Master Officer Samuel Winkler of the South Jordan Police Department, Cole Covington, 20, of Saratoga Springs, Brandon Dvorak, from Mississippi, and Cage King, 23, of Salt Lake City are now all in custody in the Salt Lake County Jail.

King, called the South Jordan Police on Saturday and voluntarily turned himself into detectives.

“The quick identifications and arrests made in this case are attributed to the members of the community that called, emailed, texted and used social media to supply tips to the police department,” said Winkler. “We believe that the amount of attention this case received via social media and local media outlets, led to Mr. King deciding to do the right thing and turn himself in to law enforcement. We can’t thank the community enough for their assistance leading to the peaceful resolution to this case.”

Investigators said the three men entered the store at at 1074 W. South Jordan Parkway and brought the employee to the back of the store where King used a rock and struck the employee several times, causing multiple fractures to his face, head and jaw.

He said the victim is now out of the hospital and is improving; but is still unable to speak very well.
