WEST JORDAN, Utah, Dec. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire that started Sunday afternoon in the bathroom of a residence on Midvalley Drive was brought under control in the nick of time.

Capt. Kris Maxfield, of the West Jordan Fire Department, said crews were called at about 4:30 p.m. to a home at 8892 S. Midvalley Drive, where a fire in the bathroom was about to make its way into the structure’s attic.

“The fire was confined to the room of origin,” Maxfield told Gephardt Daily. “The flames tried to extend into the attic, but fire crews got there fast and made an aggressive attack on it. Otherwise, I think the whole house might have been destroyed.”

Maxfield estimated damage, including smoke damage throughout the home, at $20,000 to $30,000.

“A couple of people were home at the time, and they got out safely,” he said.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, Maxfield said, but investigators do not think it is suspicious.
