SPANISH FORK, Utah, Oct. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead after a collision between a car and a semi-truck in Spanish Fork Canyon Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Daniel J. Pike, 30, from Price, Utah, said Utah Highway Patrol in a news release.

A red 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was eastbound on SR-6 near mile marker 196 in the canyon at approximately 9:30 a.m., said the news release, and a blue 2012 Kenworth semi-truck was westbound in the same area.

The Monte Carlo went left of center and struck the driver’s side of the semi-truck, said the news release. Pike, the sole occupant of the Monte Carlo, was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected through the driver’s door window. He sustained fatal injuries and was deceased on scene.

Highway 6 was closed in both directions for approximately three-and-a-half hours for investigation and cleanup.

None of the occupants in the semi-truck were injured.

Driving under the influence by the deceased driver is suspected and is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

  1. Now that the tox report is completed and there was no alcohol or drugs found in Danny’s system I think the police and the media owe the family an apology for speculating and creating such additional heart ache.
There were people posting hurtful and just plain MEAN posts to facebook and the media sites about how he should not have been drinking and driving… FACT: he was not intoxicated.
How about you do the world a favor and report facts not speculation it saves the family and the victim from hurtful undeserved ridicule.
