Suspect in custody after stabbing at Youth Resource Center in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person after a stabbing in Salt Lake City Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at the Volunteers of America Youth Resource Center, at 888 S. 400 West, just after 6:35 p.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

The suspect, Anthony Oliva, 20, got into an argument with another male for unknown reasons inside the center.

“They took their fight outside and in the course of the confrontation Oliva stabbed the victim once in the chest,” the news release said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Officials did not say whether the victim was an adult or a juvenile.

The suspect left eastbound on 900 South as officers were arriving. He was taken into custody and identified by several witnesses. The weapon was located nearby.

Oliva was booked into jail for aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
