Salt Lake City, Utah, Dec. 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews were called to a two-alarm electrical fire in Sugar House Monday.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire at 1733 South 1300 East at 5:44 a.m.

The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Utah as the Westminster College President’s House. During the early history of Westminster College, the president of the college lived in the house until the early 1960’s. The home is currently privately owned.

A news release from the Fire Department said: “First arriving crews found active fire and smoke in both the basement and first floor of the house. Originating in the basement, the fire quickly extended through the walls to the first floor.

“Investigators determined the cause was electrical, due to wires coming in contact with each other in the ceiling of the mechanical room in the basement.

“There were five adult occupants home at the time of the fire. All five self-evacuated from the house. There were no injuries reported. The occupants have an alternate place to stay until the house is habitable.”
