WEST JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Both directions of Redwood Road were closed in West Jordan Monday afternoon following a crash between a TRAX train and a car.

Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky told Gephardt Daily the crash happened at Redwood Road near 8100 South at 2:53 p.m., just adjacent to the West Jordan City Center TRAX station.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital as a precautionary measure, he said. No one on the TRAX train was injured.

Arky said the sequence of events leading up to the crash is not clear at this early stage.

The crash initially closed both directions of the road at 8100 South and a bus bridge was set up for TRAX riders, as the car was “straddling both tracks,” Arky said.

Just before 4 p.m., UTA tweeted that trains are able to proceed through West Jordan City Center, but at a slower speed than normal.

“Please continue to expect delays on both northbound and southbound Red Lines,” the tweet said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
