PROVO CANYON, Utah, June 22, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — An injured paraglider whose craft went down in a steep, remote area near Mount Timpanogos called dispatch at about 6 p.m. Sunday to share his approximate location, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

“The patient stated that he was in a narrow ravine on the north side of Provo Canyon near Mount Timpanogos and that he was very badly injured,” says a news release issued by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

“The area where the patient had crashed was very steep and high up on the mountains, requiring the assistance of two helicopters to search for him while a 3rd staged to transport the patient.

“Once the patient was located, rescuers were rapidly flown as close to the area as possible, and they began a very technical rescue due to the steep and dangerous terrain. Despite the efforts of rescuers, the patient succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.”

Utah County Sheriff Investigators, and personnel from the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office were summoned to the scene for further investigation.

The man’s name has not yet been released. Officials are working to notify his next of kin.
