MILLARD COUNTY, Utah, May 7, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a passenger in a pickup truck who was fatally injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 Thursday morning.

The deceased man is Lucio Mata-Castro, 28, of Heyburn, Idaho, said a statement from Utah Highway Patrol.

According to an initial UHP statement, the accident happened about 5:15 a.m. at mile marker 168 near the Fillmore exit in Millard County.

UHP investigators said the truck was occupied by a male driver and two male passengers, when it began to fishtail.

The driver lost control of the pickup, which “went sideways into the median and rolled,” the UHP statement said.

“A male passenger was ejected from the truck. That individual was transported to the hospital, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful.”

A second passenger was seriously injured but “will likely survive,” the statement said.

The pickup’s driver suffered only minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
