Wayne County Search and Rescue assists man wedged in slot canyon

WAYNE COUNTY, Utah, March 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Wayne County Search and Rescue assisted a man who became wedged in a slot canyon Saturday evening after rappelling with a group.

According to a news release from Wayne County, crews were dispatched just before 7:10 p.m. to the Robbers Roost area of Chambers Flats Canyon, which is just east of Hanksville.

The group had finished the rappel and members were on their way out when the man got stuck in the slot canyon, the news release said.

Wayne County Search and Rescue responded to the area along with the Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau.

A dozen SAR members were flown down from the Chambers Flat trailhead to assist the man. They began to rappel down the slot canyon just before 12:10 a.m. Sunday and the man was rescued at approximately 3:35 a.m.

A DPS helicopter then flew the man to Hanksville Airport, where he was examined and cleared by medical personnel.

The man’s identity has not been released by officials.
